On the 18th & 19th of March 2019, FYG Planners held our semi-annual conference in Hobart at RACV/RACT Hotel.

The conference was opened by Tasmanian Deputy Premier, Jeremy Rockliff who spoke on thriving in the face of major challenges.

The first conference session was taken by Jesse Vermiglio of Holley Nethercote. Jesse spoke on compliance matters and life post the banking royal commission.

David Barrett, Head of Technical Services at Macquarie, then presented on safe drawdown rates in retirement.

Up next was Jason West of Fourier Financial, who presented on anticipating risks for retirees.

After lunch, Neil Sparks, National Manager SMSF Strategy at BT took a session on taxing of super funds, along with offering a commentary on the banking royal commission.

This was followed by John Roughton of IRESS, who took the group through an Xplan Prime Demo.

To round out Day 1 the group moved onto Urban Greek in Hobart for dinner, which we can now highly recommend.

First up on Day 2, we welcomed Robyn Moore, voice of ‘Blinky Bill’ and star of ‘How Green was My Cactus’. Robyn talked effective client communication with a very positive outlook.

Unfortunately our second speaker before morning tea was taken ill, so hopefully a quick recovery and a date at a future conference!

After morning tea, the energetic Robert Baharian of Baharian Wealth Management discussed his experiences starting his advice business and his strategy.

After lunch, Peter Mancell, Executive Director Jason Fowler and IT Manager Melissa Coffey, took a session on new and ongoing developments at FYG.

Finally, Jason Fowler and Sean Kelly, both of Fowlers Group took the group through capabilities Fowler’s have been adopting and utilising within Xplan, highlighting the potential efficiency benefits across the group.

FYG management were extremely pleased with the standard of content presented from all internal and external sources. We’d like to thank all presenters along with the RACV/RACT Hotel for their great service.

The next FYG Planners conference will be held in Brisbane during September 2019.
