On the 1st and 2nd of August 2016, we held our semi-annual conference in Cairns, home to Fowlers Group, Fiducia Private Wealth, Barrier Reef Financial Solutions & BDO Private Wealth (Nth Qld).

Bob Fowler opened the conference, welcoming several first time conference attendees among a large number of regular conference faces. Bob acknowledged FYG’s ongoing growth with 8 new employees across the group or within financial advisories, and two new firms joining since the last conference. Importantly, another three advisory businesses were in the process of coming under FYG’s AFSL.

On Day 1, Andrew Inwood of Core Data gave a presentation on Regulation, Innovation & Intimacy.

Business mentor & author Sam Harrop hosted a workshop on Getting Stuff Done.

David Barrett of MAStech gave an overview of the last round of superannuation changes by the government, while his colleague at Macquarie, Sterling Grant gave a frightening presentation on fraud awareness.

Mid-afternoon, Bhanu Singh, Emmanuel Macrides & Tom Fellowes from Dimensional talked about retirement focused income planning. While in the last session of the day Kris Robertson and Cheryl Overlack of BDO Cairns (and FYG) gave a presentation on Family Trusts as The Next Best Planning Vehicle.

On Day 2, Robin Bowerman of Vanguard started the morning with Adviser Alpha and how get a win/win for clients and business.

Danny Maher of Fiducia Private Wealth held a Q&A regarding his own experience in Business Acquisition, the last of the external presentations was given by Nina Hall from NAB Cairns, who gave a presentation on lending practices for financial planners.

From there Peter, Jason & Melissa hosted a forum on Xplan compliance developments . The conference was well attended and feedback from participants showed the content extremely valuable.

The next FYG Planners conference will be held at Coogee Beach in March 2017.
